Barlow's Fulton 2nd, Weston Team 3rd In Boys Cross Country

REDDING, Conn. – Logan Fulton of Joel Barlow High School took second place individually in the Southwest Conference boys cross-country championships, but Weston High finished ahead of its rivals as a team in the meet held at Bethel High School on Thursday.

Fulton clocked in at 16:44.36 on the five-kilometer course for the second-place finish. He was 19 seconds behind top finisher Jake Feinstein of Newtown, however, who paced his team to the conference title. Newtown won the 14-school meet with 57 points.

Weston managed to take third place on a tiebreaker after finishing deadlocked with Brookfield with 106 points. Because the Trojans finished with a better overall team time, Weston was awarded third place.

“I knew we could finish third if we ran well, and we did,” Weston head coach Marty Ogden said. “We needed somebody to step up and do really well to do better than third, but we just did okay. Our one through five guys all finished within 52 seconds of each other, which is positive for states.”

James Murphy was Weston’s top runner, finishing in 11th place with a time of 17:11.15. The Trojans also got solid finishes from Will Glaser (18th, 17:20.71), Noah Krassin (20th, 17:25.87) and David Stankiewicz (24th, 17:46.18)

Barlow finished in seventh place as a team with 177 points. After Fulton, the next Falcon to finish was Colin Rooney in 29th place with a time of 17:54.73.

Weston and Barlow compete in the Class M state championship next Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester.
