Joel Barlow's girls basketball team is one of the top defensive teams in the South-West Conference, and perhaps the state. If the Falcons can generate a touch more offense, they might be sending some shock waves through the conference.
Barlow fell to undefeated Weston, 33-25, Tuesday night in a scrappy contest at Barlow. The Falcons led 9-2 after one quarter, but struggled on offense the rest of the night. Rachel Schenck scored eight points to lead Barlow (3-2), and Kelly Haines added six.
Barlow forged a 23-23 tie with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter on a basket by Victoria Shea, and were still within 28-25 after Haines scored with 4:55 remaining. Barlow went 0-for-8 from the field for the rest of the game, however, and dropped its second straight game.
Ellie Martin scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Weston. Dakota Sloop added eight points.
Barlow plays Amistad Academy of Newtown on Wednesday before returning to SWC play on Friday at home against Lauralton Hall.
