Arena Gymnastics Strikes Gold in Massachusetts

Stamford's Arena Gymnastics teams soared into the optional season at the recent Brestyan's Invitational in Burlington, Mass, winning more than 25 team and individual medals. They did this with U.S. Olympian and reigning world vault champion Alicia Sacramone looking on.

Arena's Level 7 squad, led by Erika Marr's meet-high all-around score (37.25), owned the podium by taking team gold and sweeping all four events in the Senior B division. Arena Gymnastics scored 113.50 in their victory over the host team Bresytan's and Elite, who tied for 2nd place with equal scores of 113.175.

Marr (Ridgefield ) cruised to first place in the Senior A division by winning gold medals on uneven bars (9.3) and  balance beam (9.7) and taking silver in floor exercise (9.375). In the Senior B age group it was all Arena, powered by the Onorato twins (Westport), with Pamela winning gold in the all-around (37.525) and sister Kristen taking the silver (37.100). Pamela also scored the gymnastics hat-trick by grabbing three individual event golds -- in vault (9.5), bars (9.65) and beam (9.650). Kristen took gold on floor (9.525) and bronze in vault (9.325) and beam (9.425). Stamford's Nikki Psichopaidas came away with bronze in the all-around by taking second place on bars (9.4) and beam (9.425) and third on floor (9.05). Rayna Weiser (Westport) completed the Arena sweep with a fourth-place finish in the all-around featuring silver medals in vault (9.4) and floor (9.3) and bronze on beam.

In the Level 8 competition Emma Kirchner (Ridgefield) grabbed a gold medal on bars (9.50), and Carolyn Janik (Stamford) took home a bronze on bars and placed fourth on beam.

In Level 9, Caroline Fitzpatrick (New Canaan) won silver in the all-around (36.15) with gold medal performances on bars (9.3) and beam (9.5).

After an in-house exhibition in Stamford on Feb. 4, the girls fly to St. Louis for the Gym Quarters Invitational on Feb. 19.
