RIDGEFIELD, Conn. The Westport eighth-grade Wreckers are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Ridgefield, 33-13, on Sunday. Westport began the scoring on the third play of the game when running back Evan Gilland took a pitch from quarterback Matty Johnson and broke to the outside for a 70-yard touchdown.
Westport's next scoring drive included two long punt returns by Connor Adrian that set up his 2-yard touchdown plunge. Ridgefield scored on its next drive, which ate up the remainder of the first half clock. It was 13-6, with Westport ahead, at the half.
Westport's defense took the field in the second half and held Ridgefield. Adrian was sprung for a 35-yard touchdown run behind inspired blocking by the offensive line. Adrian kicked the extra point to make the score 20-6. In the fourth quarter, Johnson scored on a quarterback keep from 15 yards out. Ridgefield answered with a 60-yard touchdown run.
Westport is off this weekend and plays Darien Blue on Oct. 23.
