WESTPORT, Conn. The Wreckers 8 North began their playoffs with a 33-13 victory over Fairfield that was almost overshadowed by the first-ever defensive touchdown by this Wrecker team. The Wreckers come-from-behind victory in the second half showed they are a force to reckon with.
Fairfield started the scoring with a punt return for a touchdown, but the extra point was no good. Westport answered in the second quarter with a 10-yard run up the middle by Connor Adrian. Colin Hoy's extra point kick was good, giving the Wreckers the lead.
Fairfield came back before the end of the half with a touchdown and got an extra point on a faked kick and run. In the second half, Westport took over. Adrian scored early behind the blocking of Matt Flinn, Jackson Ward, Max Barrecca, Dan Cozzi and the rest of the Wreckers' offensive line. Matt Johnson and Evan Gilland also ran well, and the Wreckers kept moving the chains. Connor Adrian scored again off right tackle, and Hoy's extra point was good, making the score 27-13 Wreckers with 3:15 left in the game.
As the game wound down, the defense kept the pressure on Fairfield. Evan Gilland scooped up a fumble then ran it in for Westport's first-ever defensive touchdown.
