WESTPORT, Conn. – Two teams from the Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport earned medals Sunday at USRowing’s Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The Women’s Lightweight 2x team of Mary Beth Greer and Connor Cashel took second. Jo Gurman and Louisa Freeman finished third in the Women’s Youth 2x.

Greer, of Wilton, and Cashel, from Fairfield, finished in 7:47.788, while Pelham Community won in 7:45.088. Westport's Freeman and Weston's Gurman finished in 7:41.57, just behind two teams from California. Saugatuck’s Christina Johnson and Natalie Clark finished fourth in the B final.

Saugatuck’s Men’s Youth 8+ finished fourth in the heats of Saturday’s semifinals, but had the fastest seeded time for Sunday’s B final. Saugatuck and Marin collided, however, warming up before the race. The Saugatuck crew suffered injuries that required  medical substitution for two crew members, according to a story by USRowing. The injuries were not serious, but Saugatuck dropped out of the final.

Saugatuck also finished sixth in the Grand Final of the Men’s Youth 4x. The Women’s Lightweight Youth 8+ took fifth in the B final.
