REDDING, Conn. – Due to declining enrollment, town officials have recommended reducing the budget for the Redding Public Schools, according to newstimes.com.
The budget cuts total about $96,500, and will impact Redding Elementary (for kindergarten through fourth grade) and John Read Middle School (for fifth through eighth grade), newstimes.com reported. The budget stands at $21.3 million, the report said.
While Board of Education members had hoped to maintain current budget levels for the upcoming school year, educators say the cuts will not impact the quality of programs in Redding, according to newstimes.com.
Redding Elementary's enrollment is projected to drop from 488 to 404, and John Read's enrollment of 513 is projected to fall to 481, the report said.
