Westport’s Staples High School Ranks 7th Best In State

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s Staples High School was rated the seventh-best high school in the state for 2013 by U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Nationwide, Staples ranks at No. 296, earning it a gold medal. Gold medals are awarded to the top 500 high schools with the highest college readiness, according to the report.

As part of its annual Best High Schools rankings, the magazine reviewed a total of 21,035 high schools throughout the country. Of those, 2 percent received gold medals; 7 percent were awarded silver medals; 13 percent won bronze medals; and 78 percent were not awarded medals.

In Connecticut, all 196 public high schools were reviewed. Of those, 39 were awarded medals.

In producing the rankings, U.S. News rated each school based on how well it prepares students for college, average math and reading standardized test scores and student/teacher ratio.

Of the top 10 high schools in the state, six are located in Fairfield County. Here are the rankings:

1. Darien High School 2. Conard High School, West Hartford 3. Weston High School 4. Ridgefield High School 5. Farmington High School 6. Wilton High School 7. Staples High School, Westport 8. William H. Hall High School, West Hartford 9. Joel Barlow High School, Easton 10. Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy, East Hartford
