“Congratulations to Staples on being recognized for having some of the best and brightest students in the country,” U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, who represents Westport in the 4th Congressional District, said in a statement. “Education is the foundation of our economy: our success as a nation depends on a well-educated workforce. I am extremely pleased that these schools have been recognized for their commitment to educating the next generation of workers, innovators, and leaders.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools are announced by the U.S. Department of Education every year. The program, created in 1982, recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements toward those standards.

State Rep. Gail Lavielle, who represents part of Westport in the 143rd District, also congratulated the Staples community on being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School.

“The entire Staples community has worked tirelessly to ensure that Westport has one of the best schools in the nation," Lavielle said in a statement. "This recognition is a testament to how highly Westporters value education, and to their steadfast commitment to our students. They can be very proud of this achievement.”
