Westport's Staples High Named Third Best in State

WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School was named the third best high school in Connecticut in a recent ranking by Newsweek . The magazine placed Westport 234th out of 1,000 high schools in the country.

Newsweek ranked the schools based on graduation rate, college matriculation rate, standardized test scores and the number of AP courses offered per student.

Westport’s graduation rate was 99 percent, and the college matriculation rate was 94 percent. The average SAT score is 1775, second behind Darien at 1810. The average AP score matched that of Avon, Canton and Ridgefield at 4.1. Its average ACT score, 27, is the highest in Connecticut.

A recent survey by U.S. News and World Report named Westport the fifth best in Connecticut and the 302nd best in the country. That ranking was based more on performance on state exams and AP courses, whereas the Newsweek ranking placed higher emphasis on graduation rates and the percentage of students who were college bound.
