WESTPORT, Conn. -- Students at Westport's Coleytown Middle School recently donated more than 2,000 food items to local nonprofit organizations.
Students and staff gathered on the day before Thanksgiving to present the donations, following a 40-year school tradition. Coleytown Middle School donated the food items, seven boxes of school supplies and hygiene kits as well as more $4,352 in funds, which were collected throughout November, district officials said.
CMS student representatives presented their gifts to representatives from local organizations, including Homes with Hope, the Saugatuck Congregational Church, Westport’s Department of Human Services, Operation Hope, the Connecticut Quest for Peace and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In addition to the presentations, CMS’s instrumental and vocal music groups added music and entertainment to the occasion.
