The musical is set to open at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at Coleytown Middle School's auditorium at 255 North Ave. in Westport. Further performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 4 and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5.

"Join Shrek and his sidekick, a chatterbox Donkey, as they embark on a musical adventure to rescue the feisty, beautiful Princess Fiona and save her from marrying the menacing (and also miniature) nobleman, Lord Farquaad," representatives said. "The show will please audiences of all ages with its irresistible mix of dancing, singing, action, and of course, romance. Its story will surely resonate with young audience members, as it celebrates individuality and the importance of being true to oneself."

Benjamin Frimmer, director of Coleytown Company, will direct “Shrek the Musical” with the help of Adam Riegler, assistant director. Riegler, a Westport native, was in the original cast of “Shrek the Musical” on Broadway.

Frimmer said having Riegler on board has “given the students an opportunity to explore their characters with the help of a leading Broadway actor,” according to the release.

“Adam is a fabulous young man who has had some amazing life experience," he said. "Sharing the stage with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth during 'The Addams Family' and working on other Broadway projects, Adam has lived a master class in acting.”

The production includes 88 students (68 cast members and 20 students on tech crew). The production has benefited from the contributions of Staples High School students; Melanie Orent, assistant director; and Jane Schutte, dance captain.

Tickets are available online at ShowTix4U.com. All tickets are $12 plus a processing fee. Tickets may be purchased at the door up to 45 minutes prior to curtain. For further information on tickets, residents are asked to contact Sarah Keiser at 203-341-1666.
