Westport Twins Pair Up to Break World Record

WESTPORT, Conn. – Thirty-two sophomore siblings at Westport’s Staples High School are crossing their fingers, hoping to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. They hope to set a new record for having the most twins in the same academic year.

The record was set in 2010 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury with 13 sets of twins in its 2009-10 senior class, according to the Guinness online records. The Staples Class of 2014 has 16 sets of fraternal and identical twins.

The record-breaking attempt was organized by sophomore Luke Foreman, one of the twins. Last week, the students gathered for a photo at school. Various forms of documentation must be submitted for Guinness to authenticate any record.

Two more documents need to be submitted, Staples Principal John Dodig said. The school hopes to hear back from Guinness by the end of the school year, he said.

This is not the first record Staples High School is looking to break. Last March, more than 200 students, staff and community members gathered in the school’s cafeteria hoping to break the world record for the most people arm wrestling simultaneously. The attempt was organized by the Staples chapter of Service League of Boys, better known as SLOBs.

At the time, London held the world record of 206 people arm wrestling. With 214 who joined arms at Staples, the school beat that. However, Staples was beat in its attempt by VIT University in Vellore, Tamilnadu, India, which set the new world record of 668 people arm wrestling at once last January.
