Westport Teacher Wins Education Award

WESTPORT, Conn. – Ashley Moran, a teacher at Westport’s Kings Highway School, was recently honored in Hartford with the Challenge to Educational Citizenship Award for her role in supporting education in Africa, a press release from the school announced.

Moran worked with a group of students and teachers from the SEGA School, a girls’ boarding school in Tanzania that educates the most marginalized girls in that region of Africa. The school provides its students with food, books, boarding and medical care.

Moran’s group was one of 17 out of more than 150 applicants to receive the award.

In connection with the group’s work, the third-annual SEGA Walk-a-Thon event is being held Sunday at Wakeman Fields near Bedford Middle School from 9 to 11 a.m. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the SEGA School.

This year’s walk-a-thon was organized by Staples High School juniors Walker Marsh and Isabel Gasway. Both students spent one month at the SEGA School in Tanzania last summer.

For information on the Walk-a-Thon, contact Ashley Moran at Ashley_Moran@westport.k12.ct.us .
