Breaking News: Dan Hurley Named New Basketball Coach At UConn

Westport Sunrise Rotary Honors Staples Senior

Staples High School senior Cal Rider believes it's Kool to be Kind. And because of it, he was named the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club's Student of the Month on Friday.

Son of Jeff Rider, minister at Green's Farms Church, and Lynn Rider, director of the church's Children's Ministry, Cal is one of the student leaders of Kool to be Kind, a new organization that is dedicated to eliminating bullying in elementary schools, Rotarian Roy Fuchs wrote in a release.

Once he completes training, Cal and other Staples students involved in Kool to be Kind will work with third-graders, teaching them about bullying and the importance of showing kindness to those who are picked on.

Cal is a member of the German Club and a member of the stage crew for the Staples Players. In the spring he will direct a Black Box production.
