In the one-minute video made by eighth-graders Renee Weisz and Emily Schussheim, Renee portrays “Esperanza,” a new student from Columbia who feels left out because no other students are talking to her.
At the end of the video, Emily approaches “Esperanza” and introduces herself in Spanish. The video ends with the two walking to class together.
The video, “Language Breaks Barriers,” was selected as a finalist after a panel of judges rated it for originality and creativity. The video is posted online where the public can vote for it. The winning video will be announced at the end of the month.
