Westport Students Recognized At Connecticut Student Writers Contest

WESTPORT, Conn. – Three Westport secondary school students were recently honored in the annual Connecticut Student Writers contest:

  • Charles Effman, a seventh-grader from Coleytown Middle School, had his poem “Trees” published.
  • Samantha Gefen, also a seventh-grader at Coleytown, earned an honorable mention for her poem “Evidence Eater.”
  • Julian Garrison, a senior at Staples High School, earned an honorable mention for his poem “You, Etched in Silver.”

The contest is sponsored by the University of Connecticut’s English department.

Effman, Gefen, Garrison, and other students from all over the state will be honored on May 13 at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at the UCONN campus in Storrs.
