Westport Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Nine seniors at Staples High School in Westport have been named semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

There were 16,000 semifinalists named nationwide and 8,000 will be awarded scholarships worth a total of $35 million.

The Staples semifinalists are Sarah Fox, Ben Goldschlager, Charles Jersey, Mrinal Kumar, Eliza Llewellyn, Amanda Mezoff, Warren Schorr, Steven Sobel and Katherine Zhou.

Finalists will be notified on Feb. 6.
