Westport Schools Plan For Delayed Opening

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport students may not be heading back to school on Tuesday if Hurricane Irene has anything to do with it.

If schools are closed Monday due to the storm, all events planned for that day will be pushed to Tuesday. As a result, the first day of school would be moved to Wednesday, a message on the district's Website says.

"Should our schools be closed for additional days beyond Monday, Aug. 29, schools will be in full regular session for students on the first day we are able to open so as not to extend the school year or eliminate scheduled school recesses in February and April," the message reads.

School officials will make an assessment once the storm passes through town.
