WESTPORT, Conn. (UPDATED) The start of the next academic year won't mean more money for Westport Superintendent Elliott Landon who has served as school superintendent since 1999. Landon will earn $287,899 over the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, the Board of Education confirmed Monday night.
This salary is the same as Landon's salary for the current school year, but is about $2,000 more than he earned in fiscal year 2011.
I think every time we talk about Westport 2025, and every time we look at the accomplishments of our schools, it underscores the success of the superintendent and his team, board Chairman Don ODay said at Monday nights meeting.
With ODays words of praise, the board unanimously voted to maintain the $287,899 salary.
Last June, the board approved a two-year contract extension for Landon, which included a 2 percent pay increase. Although the board approved the salary contract extension then, ODay said the board annually evaluates Landons salary and job performance.
In 2011, Landon was the top earner among both Board of Education and municipal employees in Westport, bringing home $285,000. In 2010, Landon earned approximately $282,000.
The contract extension approved last year brings Landons tenure to June 30, 2014. If the extension had not been approved, Landons contract would have been up at the end of this month.
(This story was updated to explain that Landon's 2012-13 salary will not be an increase over his current salary.)
