WESTPORT, Conn. Students at Westports Bedford Middle School recently helped raise awareness of autism during the worldwide Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue event.
Eighth-grader Ben Goldstein organized a weeklong campaign with the Bedford Blue-Gold Council during which students were encouraged to wear blue clothing.
Autism Speaks wristbands were also sold, helping the school raise $1,090 for Autism Speaks, a nonprofit that funds research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism.
Outside of Westport, iconic structures around the world, including the Empire State Building and the Sydney Opera House, took part in Light It Up Blue.
