Westport Kids Make Valentines for Vets

WESTPORT, Conn. – Students at Kings Highway Elementary School in Westport were joined by Rep. Jim Himes, D-4th District, on Monday in making Valentine's Day cards for former service members as part of the third annual “Valentines for Vets” program.

The program, initiated by Himes, collects valentines made by children in the Fourth District. The Valentines are then delivered to local veterans. This year’s cards will be delivered to Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport as well as other service organizations.

“I have seen how appreciative veterans are when someone sincerely thanks them for their service and know they are incredibly grateful for the many beautiful cards they receive,” Himes said. “This is a great chance for kids to learn about the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make while also brightening someone’s day.”
