WESTPORT, Conn. Do you know a Westport high school senior who is active in the community? The Westport Youth Commission is seeking nominations for its annual James S. Bacharach Service to the Community Award.
The award recognizes one or more seniors who have made significant community service contributions to the town, said Barbara Butler, director of Westports Human Services Department.
These awards have been given annually since 1989 as a tribute to the late James S. Bacharach, founder and past president of the Youth Adult Council. That is the predecessor to the Westport Youth Commission that Bacharach and other concerned residents founded in 1974.
Eligible nominations must demonstrate the students exemplary leadership ability and high standards of community service to Westport, Butler said.
Adults and other students may nominate a deserving high school senior, Butler said. Nomination forms will be available online and at the counseling offices at Staples High School, Greens Farms Academy, Hopkins School, Lauralton Hall and Fairfield Prep as well as at Toquet Hall, the Westport Public Library and the Department of Human Services at Town Hall.
Nominations should be submitted along with a maximum of two references or letters of support attesting to the students contributions to the town. Applications must be submitted by May 9. They can be faxed to 203-341-1073 ; emailed to email@example.com ; or mailed to Department of Human Services, Attention Bacharach Awards Committee, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT 06880.
Finalists will be chosen by a subcommittee of the Westport Youth Commission. Winners will be announced at the annual end-of-year awards presentation at each recipient's school.
