WESTON, Conn. -- Austin Patton of Weston was chosen for a prestigious National Science Foundation-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., for the summer of 2013.
The REU supports interdisciplinary research in a diverse Appalachian ridge and valley ecosystem. Patton will conduct research in salamander diversity with Dr. Kristen Bakkegard of the department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Patton, the son of Lise Hanners and Steve Patton, is a graduate of Weston High School and currently attends Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.
Samford University is the largest private university in Alabama with more than 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled annually. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in eight schools: arts, arts and sciences, business, divinity, education, law, nursing and pharmacy.
