WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s Board of Education has found its candidate for the next principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School. Laura Kaddis was named a finalist for the job in a press release last week.
Kaddis is currently principal of Danbury’s Hayestown Avenue Elementary School, where she has been since 2002. Before taking over at Hayestown she worked as an assistant principal at John Read Middle School in Redding, a district administrator in New Canaan and am elementary school teacher in Stamford and Lawndale, Calif.
Kaddis holds a Masters of Education degree from University of California, Los Angeles, a Sixth-Year degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut, and Bachelor of Arts degree from The George Washington University.
“Ms. Kaddis has extensive experience as an administrator and teacher,” Superintendent Colleen Palmer said in a press release. “In addition, as a Weston resident and parent, Ms. Kaddis will assume the principalship with a unique and personal perspective of our community.”
Kaddis will take over for Michael Cicchetti, who has been Hurlbutt’s interim principal since September, when then-principal Joanna Genovese resigned due to a lapsed certification.
The Board of Education began its search for a permanent replacement in February. Kaddis was selected from a field of four candidates by the Hurlbutt Principal Search Committee, as well as her fellow administrators and eventually the Board of Education.
“I am confident that Ms. Kaddis will be an outstanding asset to our administrative team and to Hurlbutt Elementary School,” Palmer said.
