Weston Hires Help for School Chief Search

Weston has some fresh eyes to help in its search for a new school superintendent. The Weston Superintendent Search Committee hired Cooperative Education Services of Trumbull to assist in finding a permanent replacement for Jerry Belair, who will be leaving Weston in February. The projected start date for the new superintendent is July 1. John Reed will serve as interim superintendent through June.

Thomas Jokubaitis will lead the consulting team. Jokubaitis was the interim superintendent of Weston schools from 2001 to 2002, and he led Wolcott Public Schools from 1982 to 1999. He has been an educational consultant since 1999 and has been affiliated with CES since 2007.

Joining Jokubaitis in the search is James Ritchie, who has served as the superintendent in Plainville from 1984 to 1997. He recently served as the dean of the School of Education and Human Resources at the University of Bridgeport from 1998 to 2008.

Philip Schaefer, chairman of the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Superintendent Search Committee, said: "The committee is excited to work with CES. ... I am confident that they will be a tremendous asset to the committee as we work together to recruit an exceptional, highly qualified superintendent."
