WESTON, Conn. The Weston High School varsity football team is only one of the school athletic programs involved in the Pink Aid project to raise money to fight breast cancer.
The junior varsity football, field hockey, girls soccer, and girls swimming and diving teams will also participate by wearing pink uniforms and selling baked goods.
The football team will wear pink socks during its game against Immaculate on Saturday, and the junior varsity team will also don pink socks at its game on Oct. 8 against Oxford High School. At the field hockey game on Oct. 12, the girls will also wear pink uniforms, and the girls soccer team will wear pink at its game Oct. 18. The girls swimming and diving team plans a bake sale.
Money raised by all the teams will support Pink Aid, a charity started last year in Weston and Westport to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise funds to support cancer charities.
Lots of women in the area need treatment and go through it alone with limited resources. We provide passionate care to women as they undergo treatment in Fairfield County, said Jean Lepore, the mother of two Weston High School athletes, who is helping coordinate Pink Aids high school fundraising drive. "Everyone is overwhelmed with the support we've received from Weston High School."
Money raised from this years drive will be used to purchase a portable mammogram machine for Norwalk Hospital.
