WESTPORT, Conn. The first day of school in Westport is quickly approaching do you know what team your middle school student is going to be on or who your elementary schooler's homeroom teacher is? If not, you can find out online starting Monday.
Since about 2008, the Westport School District has made it easy for students and parents to access this and other information online through the Home Access Center , said Natalie Carrignan, director of technology.
"Essentially, parents log in and access their child's record," said Carrignan, who has been with the district for five years. "Parents can share their accounts with their kids so they can log on, too."
Through Home Access Center, parents can see their child's attendance record and report cards. Parents of middle and high school students can see their child's class schedule and who their guidance counselor is. Parents of elementary school kids can see who their child's homeroom teacher will be. Middle school parents, in addition to seeing their child's schedule, can find out which team their child was assigned to.
Parents are automatically given a Home Access Center account, which is password protected. If there are multiple children in a family, Carrignan said each child's name shows up on the account and their information can be accessed individually.
"It makes things easier, in my opinion, and parents are getting used to it, which is wonderful," Carrignan said.
Another benefit of the program, Carrignan said, is that it helps the district be "green." Because report cards are available online, they are no longer printed out and sent home, unless requested, she said.
Found on the district's website , the Home Access Center will open Monday for high school and middle school. At that time, high school parents and students can view class schedules. Middle school parents and students can see team assignments, but class schedules won't be available online until Aug. 30.
For elementary school parents, the Home Access Center will open Aug. 22 at which time homeroom assignments can be viewed.
