“The Variety Show began 11 years ago when the teachers felt there had to be a way that our community could help the victims of the tsunami in Sri Lanka. It was an instant success. Since then, the show has grown and we support a different cause each year,” said Tracey Carbone, a KHS literacy specialist and co-coordinator of the event.

Previous shows have supported local and national charities, such as Autism Speaks, Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, the Heiffer Foundation, Hurricane Katrina victims at Grand Calliou Elementary School in Dulac, LA, Save the Children, Gorrioncitos School in Gorrioncitos, Granada, Nicaragua, Connecticut chapter of Make a Wish Foundation, Nurturing Minds/SEGA, and Haiti Earthquake Relief. Last year, KHS supported Westport-based nonprofit Al’s Angels.

All proceeds from the show will go to Halle’s Hope. Created in loving memory of Halle Anne Root, Halle’s Hope is determined to spread what Halle shared in five short years: a courageous (and contagious) optimism.

The foundation is dedicated to building hope and creating possibilities for children and families. By providing the resources needed, the foundation spreads the hope that anything is possible.

“This show is really all about kids helping kids and having fun doing it. Kids really do make a difference,” said Tara Doyle, the KHS technology teacher and co-coordinator of the show.

The school’s goal is to raise $8,000. During the show, students will circulate through the audience to accept donations. In addition, donations can be made before or after the show at http://halleshope.org/products/donate/ (please indicate you are a KHS donor in the message field on the donation form).
