WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Conservative Synagogue in Westport will make several changes to the Kehillah or religious education this school year aiming to give students greater flexibility with individual attention and more community projects.

“The goal is to create and foster a strong Jewish community within the school,” Director of Education Danny Kochavi said in a statement.

The new program will hold smaller weekday Hebrew classes of no more than six students and offer six choices for weekday Hebrew learning.

"Educators around the country are exploring innovative models to improve religious school education. I am thrilled that The Conservative Synagogue is on the cutting edge of these efforts as we work to connect with students and families in a meaningful way,” said Rabbi Jeremy Wiederhorn.

The school will start its new experience-based educational aspect of Kehillah program called Be’Yahad, or together. This program is geared toward third- through sixth-graders and will take place weekday afternoons. The idea is to build community and community spirit while collaborating on, and then executing, a particular project.
