State Reps Visit Award-Winning Redding School

REDDING, Conn. – State Reps. Dan Carter and John Shaban visited John Read Middle School in Redding on Monday to recognize the hard work of the students and teachers who earned the highly competitive National Blue Ribbon School distinction.

This year the school was one of only eight Connecticut schools to receive the award from the U.S. Department of Education.

“This achievement puts our educational model on the map,” said Carter. “Earning national recognition for academic excellence is a testament to the effective and nurturing learning community JRMS fosters."

“Academic achievement is more challenging today than ever before as varying student ability levels and diverse learning styles make school-wide success difficult to attain,” said Shaban. “I commend the students, as well as the teachers, parents and administrators who work hard every day to ensure that JRMS students succeed.”

The school was one of 269 chosen around the country to receive a National Blue Ribbon School award through a rigorous application process.

Principal Diane Martin will travel with several teachers to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 12 to receive the award at a certification ceremony.
