Out of more than 2,000 public and private high schools nationwide, Staples was listed at No. 766. In the Northeast region, Staples ranked No. 103 out of 264 schools.

Of the 18 Connecticut high schools that made the list, Staples was ranked as the ninth most challenging. It is preceded by Greenwich High School at No. 6, Weston High School at No. 7 and Ridgefield High at No. 8. Wilton High School followed at No. 10. Fairfield Warde also made the list at No. 12 and New Canaan placed at No. 14.

The rankings are based on each school’s index score. These scores are determined by the number of college-level tests given at a school each year and divided by the number of seniors who graduated that same year, the Post explains.

Nationwide, American Indian Public Charter in Oakland, Calif., was rated as the No. 1 most challenging school. In the state, Connecticut IB Academy in East Hartford ranked at No. 1.
