WESTPORT, Conn. -- Staples High School tennis team co-captain William Andrews has been selected as valedictorian and nationally ranked runner Hannah DeBalsi was named salutatorian for the Class of 2016, said the Westport News.
Chemistry and advanced placement language are favorite subjects of Andrews, who also likes English but says he is a science and math person, according to the Westport News.
He was on the tennis team for its FCIAC championship and 2014 state title squads, and plays tennis all year, including at tournaments in New England, Missouri and Florida, the story said. His volunteer work includes Norwalk Grassroots Tennis and Tutors for Top Hat, the Westport News said. He has not yet decided which college he will attend, the story said.
National Merit finalist DeBalsi, who will attend Stanford University in the fall, has a pair of national distance running records and many state ones. She was picked by Sports Illustrated in December as a "High School Athlete of the Month," the Westport News said. She has worked on a Yale project aimed at finding a cure for cancer, reported the Westport News.
