WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples High School seniors Madeleine Seidman and Robert De Luca will lead this year’s graduating class as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.
Seidman will speak at next month’s graduation ceremony, and DeLuca will give a speech the night before graduation at the baccalaureate ceremony, Staples announced Friday.
Both Seidman and DeLuca grew up in the Westport schools system. Seidman attended Greens Farms and Saugatuck elementary schools, and De Luca went to Long Lots. Both attended Bedford Middle School.
At Staples, Seidman and DeLuca made the most of their time by getting involved with a variety of student organizations and activities. Seidman is a peer adviser, sings soprano in the Orphenians, a select a capella group, and has acted with the Staples Players drama troupe. She is also head of the Players’ costume crew.
DeLuca is captain of the Staples swimming and water polo teams and is a member of the Junior Statesmen of America club. Outside of school, he swims on the Westport Weston Family Y Water Rat Team and is a member of the Westport Library’s teen planning committee.
In the fall, Seidman will attend Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., and DeLuca will continue his education at Princeton University.
Graduation is set for Friday, June 21, at 2 p.m. The baccalaureate ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 20.
