WESTON, Conn. -- The state released the average scores from this past spring's Connecticut Mastery Tests and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests, which revealed that generally, scores declined between 2012 and 2013 in Weston, Easton and Redding.
According to data released on Tuesday, the number of students in grades three to eight meeting the state goal on the CMT dropped at least a percentage point in most categories.
One of the biggest drops in Weston was in the eighth-grade scores for writing, where it dropped four percent between 2012 and 2013. Third-graders in Weston only rose in math, and only by .5 percent; the number of students meeting goal for writing and reading dropped five and eight percentage points.
Eighth-graders in Redding had the biggest drop in meeting goal in 2013, dropping more than10 percentage points since 2012 in writing and seven in reading. Fourth-graders in Redding had an average drop of five percent in all three categories tested.
Easton scores experienced a similar drop, except in the sixth-grade, where the percentage of students reaching goal increased in all subjects. In third-grade however, the percentage of students meeting goal decreased in an average of five percentage points.
The scores for the CAPT test didn't fare too better at Joel Barlowe High School for the 10th-graders, although students scored 10 percentage points higher in science in 2013 than they had in 2012.
The highest decrease in students meeting goal at Weston High School was in Reading, where in 2012 86 percent met goal, in 2013 only 77.7 percent met goal. However, the number of students reaching goal in math increased by four percent.
