Jeffery Golubchick, who is currently the assistant principal at Saugatuck Elementary School on Riverside Avenue, was named to the position Wednesday night. He will officially take over the post as principal at his new school on July 1.

Previously, Golubchick served in the capacity of assistant principal and director of humanities at two separate schools in New York City. Along with educating students, Golubchick is a lifelong student himself, holding two bachelor's degrees and three master's degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, Hunter College and Brooklyn College.

“Mr. Golubchick will bring to Long Lots a strategic vision that is consistent with our efforts to build a strong student community that is proficient with the essential 21st century capacities of critical thinking, creativity, communication, and global thinking within the framework of civic, social and ethical behaviors,” Superintendent of Schools Elliott Landon said in a press release.

Landon added that Golubchick is more than qualified for the new “dimension” that the role of principal has taken in recent years. The superintendent also stressed a like-mindedness between Golubchick and the Board of Education.

“Mr. Golubchick more than qualifies for these enhanced expectations,” Landon said. “He is a true instructional leader with incredible knowledge and success in creating, developing and promoting curriculum and instruction best designed for student success in the 21st century.”
