Parents who want to be in the loop about parties and other activities at Joel Barlow High School can do so simply by joining the Parent Teacher Student Association. Those who join get a copy of the JBHS phone book/event calendar known as the "Buzz Book," and Principal Tom McMorran says it's key to student safety.
"One of its less glamorous but important uses is so you can call the households where your children will be attending parties in order to ensure that responsible adults will be present," he wrote in a message to parents.
But parents have to hurry. Those who don't join now won't have their names and other information listed in the book.
This year, the PTSA, which usually has about 500 members, is expanding the book to include information about programs and events, extracurricular activities and sports schedules. The group hopes to finish the book by Saturday.
Those who would like to join and receive the book should e-mail Sharon Giannicchi. Include the names and grades of your children, home phone number, parents/guardians' full names and your mailing address.
