REDDING, Conn. John Read Middle School was one of 269 National Blue Ribbon schools in the U.S. and eight in Connecticut announced Friday by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
Schools received the award based on their overall academic excellence and for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels.
John Read is one of 219 public schools and 50 private schools that will be honored at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on November 12-13.
"Our nation has no greater responsibility than helping all children realize their full potential," Duncan said.
