In small groups, the students rotated through six hands-on stations and reflected on a variety of topics they had studied as part of their science curriculum.

The eighth-graders visited the honeybee station to learn about beekeeping and taste local honey, learned about native animals during a presentation, and some had the chance to touch a snake. The students also learned about composting and went on a nature hike to explore different types of trees.

As part of the compass skills and geocaching station, the students learned about the outdoor recreational game, or modern-day treasure hunt, known as geocaching. They also worked with a yoga instructor to learn and practice different yoga poses.

At the end of the day, the students gathered at the middle school campus to enjoy fresh fruit, snacks and burgers during the annual eighth-grade barbecue.
