EASTON, Conn. -- The fourth annual Samuel Staples Elementary School Turkey Trot is set for Friday at the Easton school.
The Turkey Trot, which assists families in need via the Easton Senior Center, runs from 2:40 to 3:10 p.m., according to a press release from the school. The 2012 Turkey Trot provided more than 1,000 food items to area families in need, according to the release.
"Again this year, each student and staff member is asked to bring a nonperishable food item to school," said the release. "As students enter the Turkey Trot, they will be asked to drop their food donation into the collection box. The afternoon's Turkey Trot will showcase SSES' giving spirit as the food items are collected."
Members of the Samuel Staples Elementary School PTA will help "ensure that the items are delivered to the Easton Senior Center for distribution," according to the release.
Parents are asked to remind their children to bring sneakers to school on Friday as students will be "trotting on the fields" near the school, according to the release.
