EASTON, Conn. – Easton taxpayers are expected to save more than $55,000 a year as a result of heating and lighting upgrades approved Monday night for Samuel Staples Elementary School.
A $404,346 expenditure for the work was passed by a voice vote at a special Town Meeting.
Town clerk Derek Buckley said about 30 residents voted and the measure passed “by a strong plurality.”
The work will include lighting upgrades and repairs to the building management system, which controls boilers, heating units and fans. Exterior lights for the parking lot, hallway lights and lights in the small gym will be replaced.
UI rebates of $141,433 for energy efficiency measures will reduce the cost to taxpayers to $262,913, according to Peggy Sullivan, director of finance.
UI also anticipates $55,241 in annual savings from the building management system and lighting repairs, with 90 percent of those savings guaranteed by Honeywell, the contractor on the job, Sullivan said.
