Isabella Paniccia wore a pink helmet as she pedaled her pink tricycle with a baby doll strapped to the back seat at New Academy Preschool's Trike-a-Thon on Friday.
Will Gregor and Michael Calderella rode their trikes, too. In all, 35-plus 2- through 5-year-olds pedaled to raise money. They crashed, fell, got back up and kept going around and around until their 15 minutes were up. Many dressed their trikes up for the event with colored streamers. The kids rode with their age groups while the rest of the students cheered them on.
The event raised $500 for the Caroline House, a support organization in Bridgeport that helps families in transition by providing education in English and life skills.
Jen Westphalen and Laura Wheatley, co-presidents of the board at New Academy Preschool, organized the event. Last year, the kids raised $1,000, which was donated to the Easton Senior Center.
