Daisy Troop Gives Books to Westport School

Daisy Girl Scout Troop No. 50192, from the King's Highway Elementary School kindergarten, donated two new books to the Westport school's library at its last meeting.

In an activity to earn their "Considerate and Caring" petal, the girls decided they wanted to raise money to make a donation. "Amongst themselves, they also decided how they were going to do it – they were going to earn it by doing chores at home," says co-leader Julie O'Sullivan.

After they collected all the money, they voted as a group on how best to use the amount they raised — about $30. The girls came up with several admirable ideas and voted to buy two new books for the school library. "It's amazing what tremendous and socially aware ideas these kindergarten girls came up with," said co-leader Kelly Emmert.

In a small ceremony at the troop's February meeting, the girls presented two newly released books by author Mo Williems to library media specialist Aimee Shuhart. Shuhart said, "We are thrilled to add these books to our collection. The children have been requesting them!"
