WESTPORT, Conn. -- Greens Farms Academy in Westport will host best-selling author Nancy Jo Sales as she leads parents in an exploration: "Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers."
The free event takes place Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the GFA Performing Arts Center, 35 Beachside Ave., Westport.
Based on her most recent New York Times best-selling book, Sales' talk will focus on the pressures teenagers face when deciding how to present themselves to an online audience — and the destructive impact some of these decisions can have on their self-esteem. Sales will touch upon the many difficult topics that both teens and parents face in their daily interaction with a demanding digital society.
Sales is an award-winning journalist and author who has written for Vanity Fair, New York, Harper’s Bazaar, and many other publications. Her 2013 book, The Bling Ring: How a Gang of Fame-Obsessed Teens Ripped Off Hollywood and Shocked the World, tells the true story behind the feature film The Bling Ring, which was based on Sales' 2010 Vanity Fair piece “The Suspects Wore Louboutins.”
Her most recent book, American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers, was a New York Times bestseller and explored social media’s effects on adolescents in an age when teens are coming of age in a hypersexualized online culture.
The event is open to the public and will include time for questions from the audience. Sales will also be available to sign books (which will be available for purchase).
