WESTPORT, Conn. Students at Westport's Bedford Middle School are raising funds this week for the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service, a nonprofit group that supports the town's Emergency Medical Service by providing personnel, vehicles and equipment.
During the BMS for EMS fundraiser, which began Monday and runs until Friday, students can make a $1 donation to Westport EMS in appreciation of someone or something that's important to them. In addition to making a donation, students will create an icon to be placed on an "appreciation wall" at the school.
Martin Iselin and Ben Frimmer, members of the Westport VEMS, visited Bedford's eighth-graders as part of the students' curriculum last week before the fundraiser was launched. Iselin, president of the nonprofit, and Frimmer spoke about why they volunteer and what it's like to be a member of Westport VEMS.
