WESTPORT, Conn. Earthplace Nature Center and the Westport Home Energy Challenge will present an interactive lecture Friday on energy-efficient buildings. In the spotlight is the work of the Passivhaus Institute , which, according to Earthplace, has been able to reduce energy consumption in buildings as much as 90 percent.
Doug McDonald, a Westport real estate agent, will talk about work he did on a 1936 house designed by Barry Byrne, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright. Using Passivehaus standards, McDonald retrofitted the home, creating one of the areas most energy efficient buildings. The presentation will include virtual tours available for viewing on iPads.
A pre-lecture reception with wine and food, courtesy of Whole Foods Market, begins at 6:15 p.m. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door, and all proceeds will benefit Earthplace.
