WESTON, Conn. – One of the first things actor Larry Luckinbill did when he moved to Weston in 2007 was acquire a library card. Now that he and his wife, actor Lucie Arnaz, have decided to move to Palm Springs, Calif., it is that sense of community, the people and the pride that he will miss.

“I’m going to miss Peter’s Market,’’ said Luckinbill, who put his five-bedroom colonial home on White Oak Lane up for sale last month for $1.299 million. “I’d go there almost daily. We didn’t have much interaction with the schools, but every time you went to vote there was a lot of seriousness about it. Palm Springs is a small town and they seem to have great civic pride. In that respect, it’s a lot like Weston.”

Luckinbill and Arnaz downsized from their previous home in Katonah, N.Y., when they moved to Weston. With their children grown, they did not need the 19 acres and maintenance of a much larger property.

Their Weston home includes 3 ½ baths and features galore on just more than 2 acres. Luckinbill converted a building in the back of the property from a workshop into a beautiful office space where he works on his writing. The master bedroom has a walkout balcony that overlooks a landscaped backyard. There are three fireplaces, a pool, spa, full finished basement, media center, wine cellar and full-house generator.

The kitchen is newly renovated with top of the line appliances, the master bedroom boasts a new gas fireplace and the family room includes a custom-designed copper-topped bar. “It was inspired by the Cobb’s Mill Inn (in Weston),’’ Luckinbill said. “We liked the look and tried to emulate it.”

Perhaps the best feature about the home is its location on a quiet cul-de-sac off Georgetown Road. It sits in a terrific neighborhood for young families. Although the property offers privacy, it is not far removed from the street. The whole atmosphere of the house, inside and out, wreaks of community, warmth and comfort. The home was built in 1980.

Arnaz, daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, could have a second career as an interior designer in addition to her acting and singing talents. “She has such good taste and how to decorate,’’ Luckinbill said. “She knows how to bring life into the room.”

One thing that attracted Luckinbill to Weston was the location. “I liked the woods,’’ he said. “When we were looking, Westport got too expensive and the artists and the painters moved here. The other thing that surprised me was it was a true community.”

Both actors remain busy. Luckinbill starred on Broadway and in films and was cast in numerous television shows. He has written and performs mostly now in several one-man shows, including “Hemingway,” “Teddy” and “An Evening with Clarence Darrow.”

Arnaz’s stage career dates back to "The Lucy Show," where she had walk-on parts on her mother’s television series. She recently appeared at The Ridgefield Playhouse with her show “Latin Roots,” an eclectic celebration of her musical heritage.

"We’re going to miss our friends,’’ Luckinbill said. “Every time we’ve moved we’ve made wonderful friends. My wife says I’m friends with every hardware store owner in the country. We’re going to make a whole new set of friends.”

Robert Wiederlight of Coldwell Banker Westport is the listing agent. He can be reached at 203-227-1269. His colleague at Coldwell Banker, Kathleen O'Connell of Weston, is also available to show the house and can be reached at 203-858-2590.
