The store designated Kids in Crisis as the beneficiary of its 5 percent Giving Day, held Jan. 14. Five percent of all purchases made that day were given to the Cos Cob-based children's shelter and community resource, which recently announced a $750,000 state funding cut.
Whole Foods Market Greenwich also donates food to the shelter three times a week on a regular, ongoing basis. The store is located at 90 East Putnam Ave.
"Whole Foods Market Greenwich is thrilled to support Kids in Crisis and its vital work," said Connie Leonard, marketing team leader at the store. "We are grateful to the Greenwich community for shopping with us and helping to make a positive impact on local organizations."
Kids in Crisis is Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling, and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises -- domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties, and more.
Since its founding in 1978, the organization has helped more than 132,000 Connecticut children and families. Last year, 6,184 children and families received assistance from the organization.
