Late last week, a man carrying a red “Santa Bag” was chased down and charged with swiping $1,400 worth of Prilosec, Mucinex and other items from a single Mahwah CVS.

The accused thief’s car was barreling down the New York State Thruway, with police cruisers from Suffern and Ramapo on his tail, when he was pulled over. Inside the car, police found the bag, which was full of items snatched from the Franklin Turnpike pharmacy, said Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli.

They charged the driver, identified as Michael Chavis, of Brooklyn, with various counts. He was ordered held on $10,000 bail while authorities in Rockland County take inventory of items found in the car that apparently were stolen from CVS stores in Pearl River and Ramapo, Batelli said.
