Power Crews Concentrate Efforts in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Residents who live in the northwest area of Westport may see their power restored by Friday night as the area is getting concentrated attention from utility crews, Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff announced.

As of 12 :30 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported 650 outages in Westport — that's roughly 6 percent of town. After Hurricane Irene hit Sunday, there were more than 9,000 outages. Many of the remaining outages are concentrated around Wilton Road/Route 33, Red Coat/Calvary Road, Newtown Turnpike and Weston Road, Joseloff said. Homes along Lyons Plains Road are also still without power.

"CL&P tells us that two separate groups of crews are working circuit 21M3, which supplies Newtown Turnpike and all side roads north of Route 33 up to the Weston border and between the Saugatuck River and the Wilton town line," Joseloff said in a statement

"The other circuit, 21M15, supplies Lyons Plain Road and several small side roads there. CL&P hopes to restore these circuits by late tonight."

Outages in other areas of town are being handled by additional crews, Joseloff said. Residents who still don't have power by the end of the day are urged to call CL&P at 1-800-286-2000. Joseloff said it's important for residents who are still in the dark to make sure CL&P has not overlooked their address.

Representatives from town departments, including Human Services, are visiting elderly and other special needs residents in the areas that still don't have power, Joseloff said. The town's Emergency Operations Center at fire headquarters, he added, continues to be staffed 24 hours a day.

More specific information on storm-related issues can be obtained by calling (203) 341-5140, 341-5141 or 341-5142.

Residents are also urged to continue receiving post-Irene updates from the town's website, via Twitter, the Staples High School radio station WWPT-FM 90.3, and through the CodeRED emergency telephone notification system.
